The health of the little ones is a responsibility of the parents, and just as they have check-ups with their pediatrician, they should also have dental check-ups. The first visit to the dentist is recommended during the first year of life, when the first tooth is visible. In the first visit, the dentist will examinate your child, their teeth, jaws, gums and if the need, the dentist will clan away plaque, tartar and stains. The dentist will also demonstrate proper brushing and flossing technique.
How to prepare for your child’s first dental visit
Start early! The earlier you bring your children to the dentist, the more likely they are to feel comfortable in this environment. Dental visits will simply become part of your children’s healthcare routine.
Talk to your children about what’s going to happen and be positive. Avoid negative language, such as pain or shot. Have your child practice opening his or her mouth to get them ready for when the dentist counts and checks their teeth. Reading books or watching videos about first dental visits may help your child be less fearful and more confident. Dra. Halina Rubio.
