Here you will find answers to the most common questions asked by children about the human body. Read carefully and show yourself as a great expert in front of your child.

Why do tears come out when we cry? Tears usually appear during emotions of joy, sadness, pain or even laughter. Actually, it is not known how we can cry with happiness and sorrow. There are three types of tears, one to lubricate and hydrate the eye, another to protect it from something irritating, and a third type that responds to emotions. In the latter case, experts believe that tears relieve stress and help to calm down. Tears are made up of substances such as enzymes, oils, and antibodies. This occurs to meet certain needs that we have as human beings. We cry to communicate, balance our health and emotions, and to keep our eyes healthy.

Why do we feel ticklish? Why are there people who feel them, and others who don’t? The ones that feel are on their feet, on their necks, on their stomachs… but why can we cause them ourselves? The truth is that tickling is based on the activation of the brain area that is related to the perception of risk and the instinct to escape. It is a kind of reflex action that today is deciphered as a funny trait. The process of giving and receiving tickles is based on a neurological programming in which the different personal bonds take place. An activity based on communication and empathy that is defined as one of the most peculiar features of the human body and that is fully produced by the brain and nerves.

Why do feet smell? There are more than 200,000 sweat glands in the feet that generate bacteria that remain trapped after a long day of walking and resting, in children’s shoes or sports shoes. They are the ones that cause and generate some organic acids that smell bad at the feet. Sometimes bad foot odor is due to a bad hygiene habit, such as wearing the same sock for more than 2 days in a row. However, most of the time the bad smell in the feet is caused by the fibers of the shoes, hormonal changes, stress, the use of medications, illness, etc.

Why do our nails grow? Nails are an accumulation of dead cells made up of keratin, amino acids, water, lipids, and proteins. They are born in the nail matrix, the part that is under the skin at the base of the nail. There new cells accumulate that push the previous ones outwards and thus make the nails grow.

Why do we feel pain? We all experience pain at some point. When we cut ourselves, we hurt ourselves, we fall, or we have an accident with our body. When there is an injury, the nerves (the cells that help the body send and receive information) send millions of messages to the brain about what is happening. And the brain makes you feel the pain.

Why do some people have bad breath? Some people’s bad breath can be related to different disorders in the body. However, in most cases it is related to poor oral hygiene. Not brushing or flossing regularly causes sulfur compounds to be released by bacteria in the mouth. Poor digestion or digestive problems can also cause bad breath.

Why do we get blood from our nose? Nosebleeds can be caused by: dry nose, irritations due to allergies, colds, sneezing, or sinus problems. When you live in a cold or dry climate, the probability that your nose bleeds is greater. Forceful nose blowing or nose picking can also lead to nosebleeds.

Why does blood come out when we hurt ourselves? Bleeding occurs when we suffer a cut in the skin or a wound that causes damage to a blood vessel and blood begins to flow. The first step in controlling blood loss is for the blood vessel to be narrowed (called constriction) so that blood flow is decreased.
