On April 13 of each year we celebrate International Kissing Day, a date that coincides with the record for the longest kiss in history. This date was marked on the calendar to remember the meaning of a kiss, as an expression of the love and intimacy of the couple, as well as the simple pleasure associated with it.
Although this International Day has not been officially recognized, its celebration has been shared to raise awareness among the population of those countries where this practice is not well seen, even becoming prohibited. This day has become a strong competitor to Valentine’s Day, which until 2013 was clearly the most romantic day on the calendar.
History of International Kissing Day
In a contest in Thailand, a couple performed a remarkable feat by keeping a kiss for no less than 58 consecutive hours (58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds), taking home a prize of €2,500 and two diamond rings. In this way, the couple surpassed their record that they achieved in the previous year’s contest, in which they kissed for 46 hours.
