There are several types of bullying generated by various causes, including low self-esteem of the bully who enjoys feeling superior by mistreating another, as well as personal, family or school causes.
Verbal:
Verbal bullying is characterized by the bully expressing his or her mistreatment through words by inventing stories, making use of threats, insults, nicknames, excluding or mocking phrases about appearance, disability or sexual condition.
For example, “There’s the four eyes”, to those who have glasses because they have some visual difficulty, among others.
Physical Bullying:
Physical bullying is classified into two types: direct and indirect.
Indirect physical bullying is characterized as a set of manual actions that do not generate physical harm to the victim. For example, when the bully steals another’s personal belongings or leaves anonymous notes with intimidating messages.
Direct physical bullying is more noticeable and easier to detect because of the body marks it usually leaves. Aggressive behavior includes kicking, hitting, pushing, shoving, tripping, among others. For example, when a classmate is locked in a circle and assaulted with kicks for being different from others.
Social Bullying
These are the set of actions carried out by the aggressors in order to exclude a person from a social group, either by ignoring his/her presence, excluding him/her from an activity, discriminating against him/her because of his/her economic situation, among other things.
For example, not allowing a classmate to participate in a group activity because he/she is considered clumsy.
Sexual bullying or sexual harassment:
This is a type of harassment or harassment with a sexual connotation. Generally, the victims are mostly girls. It can have serious psychological consequences. Examples of this type of abuse are sexist or obscene comments, physical aggressions such as rape, among others.
Cyber bullying
This type of harassment is carried out through electronic media and its various communication channels through which abusive and offensive messages can be sent, images, videos or personal data can be shared, and this information can be made public in order to attack another person.
For example, constantly receiving offensive messages, for no reason whatsoever, through various social networks, from an abusive person who intends to harm us verbally and psychologically.
