Its name comes from the Nahuatl cempohualxochitl which means ‘twenty flowers’. This is because when observing it you can see its petals carefully curl around the entire flower, which produces an appearance more of a bouquet of several flowers, than of a single specimen. Hence, the ancient Mexica gave it the name of ‘twenty flowers’ in Nawat
