In Mexico, the celebration began in 1922, according to the researcher of the National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico.
May was chosen because it was the month consecrated to the Virgin and the 10th because at that time in Mexico it was paid in the dozens, although other sources place the first day of the Mexican mother in Oaxaca in 1913, when the wife of a Methodist priest found a magazine where the celebration was discussed and decided to resume the idea.
Mexico was the first Latin American country to join this commemoration, and such importance acquired the devotion to the mother that on May 10, 1949, a large sculpture in honor of the mother was inaugurated in the capital.
