The concept of family is changing rapidly, and those formed by a single mother are also valid. We give you some tips to make everything a little easier. If you are a single mother, you will know how difficult, complicated and stressful it can sometimes be to raise a child on your own. On many occasions, fears and doubts arise related to raising a child, such as the pressure of carrying the responsibility alone. It also tightens the economy, receiving less income than two-parent families…

But sometimes the fundamental question arises in which we always ask ourselves, am I doing it right? Will I be a good mother? It is important to take into account these tips to be a single mother without complexes.

 

Tips to keep in mind if you are a single mother 

1. Spend time with your childrenEat or dine with them whenever you can, read them stories, help them with their homework, play with them… Spend quality time with them whenever you have the chance.   

2. Go where you want when you wantIt will always be nice to share moments together with your child. Time passes, they grow up and in the end what they will remember will be the time and love you have given them. So take them with you when you can. 

3. Don’t let your children control youSometimes they can abuse the fact that you are the only authority, even if they do it unconsciously. You are the only one who can set rules and limits that must be respected and you must enforce them. But check with them so they don’t feel left out and come to agreements as a team.

 4. Do not discharge anger against your childrenWe often feel overwhelmed by the situation; Being a single mother is not easy, and the children often pay for this rage. Do not let this control you, as it can be very counterproductive and you should avoid it. You are in control of the situation. 

5. Speak gently about dad in front of your sonIf he is small, he will not understand many things and we will have time to explain everything to him when he is a little older. You must not create a bad energy between them. 

6. Do not think and martyr yourself thinking what it would have been like if you were not alone with your little oneThink that your son has a mother who makes him just as happy, that nothing matters more than the love and care you give him.

 7. Overcome tirednessDespite the tiredness after a hard day at work, it is necessary to spend time with your children and have energy for them. 

8. Ask for help if you need itIf you see that the situation is beyond you, ask for help from family or friends. For no reason should you let yourself be carried away by negative emotions by locking yourself in them. Do not collapse if you see that you cannot reach everything, it is normal. 

9. Be careful when making decisionsThink hard about the situation and what the advantages and disadvantages of said action may be, do not act impulsively, since this would be counterproductive.

Communicate with your childrenIt is very important that you talk to them about their problems, how they did at school, what worries them… This will develop their trust and a healthy relationship. And even if what they tell you is negative, don’t blame them, talk to them and above all look at all the positive aspects that you can get out of the situation.

11. Create a stable and safe homeFor this, it is important to establish rules and routines that must be respected every day. This gives children normality and security. 

12. Avoid overprotectionSometimes it is difficult, but overprotection prevents them from developing their independence and personality.   

13. You have the right to be happy and start a new lifeYou are a single mother, which opens up a wide range of opportunities for you. Set new goals, new projects in which you include your child and avoid closing in on yourself.By following these tips you will feel that you are coping better with the situation of being a single mother. Despite having and going through difficult times, believe in yourself. You have your son by your side every day, and this is what you have to fight for; No one said it was easy, but it can be done. 

With effort and patience, you can overcome all the doubts, complexes and problems that come up. Sometimes these situations make us mature and know what we really want or not in our lives. And whenever life provides us with some teachings and learning, it will be good to have had to go through it.
