In the month that celebrates us, the national strike of ‘A day without women’ is reconvened on March 9, but why it happens, what it means and more we will tell you so that you know everything that there is about this movement.
What is celebrated in Mexico on March 9?
In reality, March 9 is the International Day Against Racial Discrimination, but since 2020, citizens have used that day to carry out an initiative called ‘A day without women’. This strike invites no one to do their daily tasks such as going to work, shopping and all those activities they do, in addition to girls not attending school and no women going out on the street.
Origin of the national strike of March 9
It all started when the feminist collective ‘Brujas del Mar’ published the initiative on its Twitter account in 2020, which soon went viral. They decided that it was the day after March 8 because that day thousands of women gather to demonstrate in the streets of their city and in this way it would be possible to see a contrast of what the streets full of women look like and the next day what it would be like if we did not exist. The initiative asked to support and support all those who decided to be part of the strike and that in their jobs, schools and organizations there were no reprisals.
Will there be a national strike on March 9, 2022?
The Collective of feminists in Mexico called again this year 2022 for a national strike of ‘A day without women’ for next March 9, in order to make visible what the country would be if there were no women.
