On May 28, International Game Day is celebrated to highlight the importance of games in childhood and throughout life.
Playing is a way of exploring the world, it is the engine of joy and transformation. When playing we can wander, imagine and project other worlds even in the most arid of contexts, connect with emotions, with enjoyment, with the desire to be and do.
Play is a fundamental right of childhood. Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child establishes:
“The right of the child to rest and leisure, to play and to recreational activities appropriate to his age and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts”.
Today more than ever, promoting play is also a way of taking care of ourselves and of taking care of children and adolescents.
Playing with other children, in addition to promoting children’s social relationships, teaches them to respect rules, to negotiate, to empathize with the other, to organize themselves and makes the game much more fun than if it is practiced alone.
