Every February 14 we celebrate Valentine’s Day, although the reality is that few know about its origin. For many, it is just the day to remind their partner how much they love each other and to have a very special detail between them and, for others, it is one more day since they know that this type of present and demonstration of love should be done every day. and not by the date on the calendar. Valentine’s Day has an origin beyond the definition that marketing has assigned to it in modern times.

Currently, this celebration is to commemorate the Day of Love and Friendship every February 14, but few know that, in reality, its name is due to a celebration that recalls the Saint of Lovers, that is, Valentine’s Day. , who was a religious who defended and married young people in Ancient Rome in the third century. According to tradition, during the persecution of Christians in the first centuries, this saint risked his life to unite couples in marriage. It is for this reason that Valentine’s Day is usually related to the love of a couple

Saint Valentine of Rome was a Roman priest who spiritually accompanied Christians who had been imprisoned in the persecutions against practitioners of this faith and helped them prepare for martyrdom and death.

Another version tells that it was a priest who, despite the fact that the Roman authorities forbade young soldiers to marry, considering that they would be better fighters if they did not have family ties, dedicated himself to marrying couples in secret according to the Catholic rite. . Sadly, when he was discovered, Valentin was martyred and beheaded. February 14 is the date on which lovers send love postcards because, according to the medieval belief of England and France, on that day, that is, in the middle of the second month of the year, ‘all the birds choose their partner’ . The history of Saint Valentine goes back many centuries and is shrouded in the mist of legend, so much so that today religion questions its existence and since 1969 it has not celebrated this holiday, although ironically, it is the most famous. and celebrated around the world.
