Osteoporosis is a disease that causes the fragility of the bones and is currently suffered by at least two million women in Mexico.
Qualified as the “silent evil”, because it has no symptoms until very advanced stages, osteoporosis gradually weakens the bones and makes them so fragile that the slightest effort can cause a fracture.
The most common injuries are:
Fracture of wrists or hips, which sometimes cause disability, loss of independence and even death
Crushing of the vertebrae of the spine, which produces humps and loss of height, among others.
Osteoporosis is characterized by the accelerated deterioration of the skeletal structure.
Who can suffer from osteoporosis?
According to studies carried out, both men and women are likely to suffer from this disease. However, it occurs more frequently in women, especially from the age of 45. Risk factors are considered:
The white and oriental race
The climacteric, due to the decrease in estrogen
The thin complexion, because it has small bones and lower body weight.
Some eating habits, such as consuming inadequate amounts of calcium or excess coffee
Smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages
