Valentine’s Day is part of the affectionate days for those we appreciate most in life, a detail or a gift on this date will undoubtedly make that person feel valuable in Mexico. However, we must also know what the story is and why this day is so special. Remember that you can spend it at home or accompanied, but here we tell you the reason for its celebration.

The date takes the name of a Christian doctor from Ancient Rome, named Valentine, who rebelled against the emperor who prohibited young people from getting married because that way they would not have a family waiting for them at home. Valentin began to secretly marry people. He was discovered and, legend has it, he was subsequently beheaded. Having been in favor of marriage, he began to be considered a saint of love.

What is the origin of the celebration of February 14?The fact that it is celebrated on that date is due to a rite that was held in Ancient Rome from February 13 to 15. The name of this celebration was the Lupercalia, whose purpose was to grant fertility to women. Over the centuries, the Christian church decided to impose the celebration of Valentine’s Day on the same date that these pagan rites were celebrated and that is how it became what we know today.

Valentine is still considered a saint. Although today it is celebrated in many countries around the world, there are also some countries where the date is not celebrated due to religious reasons.

How is Valentine’s Day celebrated today?A curious fact is that in Colombia, this date is celebrated on September 18, since during February Colombians have expenses related to the school season, in addition to the fact that there was no special celebration in the month of September.
